Ryan Lambert: From BYU to Ballet and Business
Ryan Lambert is a remarkable example of how passion and discipline can coexist in two very different worlds. As a graduate of Brigham Young University (BYU), Ryan successfully merged his love for numbers with his passion for dance. Holding a degree in accounting while simultaneously earning a full-ride dance scholarship, he exemplifies the spirit of dedication and excellence that defines BYU alumni.
Early Dance Beginnings
Meet Ryan Lambert! Ryan started dancing at the age of thirteen in a production of The Nutcracker. Following that, he began training at Linda Fenton Dance Studio and continued through high school. He also had the opportunity to attend the Summer Intensive at Ballet West, further honing his skills. He continued his ballet training at BYU and participated in several shows there, notably Giselle by Adolphe Adams, and Serenade by Tchaikovsky.
The BYU Years
At BYU, Ryan faced the unique challenge of balancing the rigorous demands of an accounting major with the intense training required of a ballet dancer. His days were filled with financial analysis and ballet rehearsals, proving that hard work and determination could pave the way for success. His ability to excel in two vastly different disciplines set him apart and prepared him for a dynamic career ahead.
A Life in New York
After graduating, Ryan relocated to New York, a city renowned for both its financial hub and vibrant arts scene. He is currently working as an audit associate at KPMG, one of the Big Four accounting firms, where he applies his analytical skills and financial expertise. Despite the demanding nature of his profession, Ryan has found a way to continue his dual interests—working as an accountant while also pursuing his passion for ballet. Ryan continues to actively take ballet classes, and is able to make them a tax write-off, thanks to his annual Nutcracker performances and his knowledge of the Schedule C form. He also keeps spreadsheets of all the shows he's seen, including different categories of analysis for each one.
Inspiring Others
Ryan’s story serves as an inspiration to many, especially aspiring students who believe they must choose between the arts and a stable career.
